Twice this week I have had to drive to areas in Washington that I had never been to. I was completely ignorant of where certain roads were as I traveled to my intended destination. The cities were big, and around every turn or bend in the road there was something new. Had I not payed attention to the signs on the road, I could have easily been in Texas for all I knew.

Before I left my condo, I entered the address in Mapquest to get directions. And, true to its nature and design, Mapquest gave me directions, step by step. Thankfully, I didn’t get lost — getting there. On one of the trips, getting back was a different matter. I actually missed a particular exit to the point that in my attempts to turn around and take the intended exit on the return trip, I ended up missing the exit again — plus three other missed exits in a series of turn-arounds — and wound up several miles south of Seattle, which included missing an exit while driving through Seattle, too.  Thankfully I had just enough memory to recall what points I was aiming for and managed to play reversed-connect-the-dots and made it back to my brother’s college to pick him up from school.

I was clearly lost and only just barely managed to find my way on my own.

A good friend of mine is not so cool under pressure in unfamiliar territories. Had it been her, the poor woman would have had very nearly a nervous breakdown. Some people truly just do not know what to do when they feel overwhelmed and helpless. More Here…
