Jesus’ charge to his followers in Matthew 28 is this: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” My question to you is this:
Is inviting someone to come to a church service fulfilling this command?
If not, why not? If so, tell me why you think so.
Here’s an observation: Disciple making is hard. Really hard. It takes a lot of work and effort and dialogue and relationship building. It’s usually slow and methodical. It usually doesn’t happen overnight.
Here’s another observation: Inviting someone to a church service is easy. Really easy. It puts the onus of disciple-making on the “stuff” that happens during the worship service. In my experience, inviting someone to a church service lets the parishoner off the hook for doing the hard work of disciple-making. “Welp, I’ve done my job!” the thought goes.
