Have you noticed how there seems to be a self-help book or support group to help us deal with every problem, weakness or addiction bothering us? Most of us believe that getting rid of the bad stuff in our lives will solve most of our problems. But Jesus taught that getting rid of the bad is not enough. We need to replace the bad things in our lives with his goodness. For example, getting rid of friends who are a bad influence is not enough; they need to be replaced with good friends. When hatred leaves, love must enter; when addiction is kicked out, loyalty and zeal for God must take its place.
Finding solutions to our problems and conquering addictions is not enough. God and good must fill and control our lives in their place.
