Insisting on Your Rights

Once when I was returning a rental car at the airport, I was first in line with a long line behind me. After the agent took care of me, he said, “Who’s next?” and two men simultaneously said, “I am.” From there it escalated into a heated argument as to who was first. I left to board the shuttle bus to the terminal and they both missed the bus as they argued about who had the right to go first.

It’s a natural human tendency to insist upon our rights, but it’s not the way Jesus taught us to live. Listen to these wise words from the Bible:

“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

Or, to put it another way, don’t be so concerned with your own rights that you miss the bus to heaven!
