Christian VS Secular Music

I know there are a lot of discussions out there trying to compare some of the Christian rap artists to the more well-known secular artists. While searching online recently, I found a list, which lays out some of the more popular secular artists, and offers a great alternative to the styles they represent in the Christian scene. I thought I would share this with you and get some comments on whether you agree or disagree. The list does not include Lecrae, Tedashii, Sho Baraka, Trip Lee, or several other popular artists so I also would encourage you to hear who you compare them too. So without further ado, here it is!

Having read this I believed it was rather informative.
I appreciate you finding the time and energy to put this information together.
I once again find myself personally spending a significant amount of time both
reading and leaving comments. But so what, it was still
    worth it!

Hi excellent blog! Does running a blog similar to this require a
large amount of work? I have no expertise in coding however I was hoping to start
my own blog soon. Anyway, should you have any recommendations or techniques for new
blog owners please share. I understand this is off subject but I just wanted to ask.
    Many thanks!

@Susie I feel you. I’m more a fan of jazzy, boom bap styles than crunky, clubbin styles of hip hop. I’m a HUGE fan of The Procussions (whom you’ve already named) and my latest discover is a Canadian rapper named Shad. Also, Deepspace 5 is a great crew, with members who are also great solo artists like Manchild, Playdough, and Sivion. I have also recently started digging Heath McNease.

    Free albums to hear:

So I’ve been looking all over the place for christian music that sounds like a tribe called quest and more underground sounds like People Under the Stairs. so naturally i was really stoked about this list! I checked it out & grits is really awesome and all and i’m really glad that i know of them now, but I’m sorry to say Grits doesn’t sound like ATCQ :(

Since i got saved, secular music just didn’t sit right and i’m so bummed bc i have so much hip hop with awesome beats! but horrible lyrics, can anyone shed some light on where i can find music that sounds like ATCQ, PUTS, andre nikatina, atmosphere, the pharcyde, jurassic 5 and the roots? that would be so awesome!!!

also i would like to share a few good songs i’ve found:
sea breeze, & timeless by L.A. Symphony

The only album I could find of Brother Marquis has curse words in the titles. Is he really a Christian rapper?

  10. arieschik says:

Consider the lilies, how they grow. They neither [wearily] toil nor spin nor [i]weave; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory (his splendor and magnificence) was not arrayed like one of these. [I Kings 10:4-7. 28But if God so clothes... the grass in the field, which is alive today, and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you [people] of little faith? 29And you, do not seek [by meditating and reasoning to inquire into] what you are to eat and what you are to drink; nor be of anxious (troubled) mind [[j]unsettled, excited, worried, and [k]in suspense]; 30For all the pagan world is [greedily] seeking these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31Only aim at and strive for and seek His kingdom, and all these things shall be supplied to you also. 32Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom! 33Sell what you possess and give donations to the poor; provide yourselves with purses and handbags that do not grow old, an unfailing and inexhaustible treasure in the heavens, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
    LUKE 12:27-34 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE)

  11. arieschik says:

I agree that there needs to be money for the mission to go forth, I meant should artists charge to minister the gospel? If we view Christian rap as a form of ministry should there be a charge for the ministry, theres nothing wrong with charging for the use of a talent. However, if someone claims that their rapping is a ministry then should they be charging? I am referencing the scritures: Jesus sent out these twelve, charging them, Go nowhere among the Gentiles and do not go into any town of the Samaritans; 6But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven …is at hand! 8Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give. MATTHEW 10:5-8 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE)

  12. Aropet says:

hey, i think it is ok to compare christian artists with secular ones. we are simply comparing the flow (style), but not the message they are conveying. ofcourse our gospel is classic….secular stuff is crap.

yes, i think christian artists should be paid; otherwise how will they carry out their errands? let me pause a question, if sudents stop paying tuition in schools, what happen’s? if people stop giving in church what happens to church activities? the fact is that we all need to be facilitated. that does not guarantee our artists to make money a priority..let us help our brothers spread the gospel.

  13. arieschik says:

I would like to ask a question, should christian rap artists be paid to preach the gospel of the Messiah, or is it a ministry more than a career? Please comment and voice your opinions. Thanks

  14. tinashe says:

wat makes chritian hiphop better is the message embedded in the music and lyrics….CHRTIAN HIPHOP ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

  15. reuben says:

i agree with arieschik hundred percent children of god aint to compared with the children of darkness.the secular musician are rappers bt the christians are ministers.they entertain but we lead people to god

  16. arieschik says:

I feel it is not right to compare anyone preaching the gospel message with their music to anyone of the secular world. We as children of the Most High are to be set apart with a renewed mind. There should be no comparison to the secular world.

  17. Kevin Rumsey says:

I think Timothy Brindle is a perfect alternative to Eminem for sure! Dude’s got mad skills.
