With all the ups, downs and surprises, you probably feel like this season has been trickier to navigate than the beauty aisle at your local drug store: What’s my skin type? Am I dry, oily, or a combination of both? Do I need an eye cream in my 20s? Why am I still getting break outs in my 30s?

Take a deep breath. As usual, we’ve got you.

Skin Types

Let’s start with the basics, your skin type. You are most likely considered “dry” if you step out of the shower and still look like Latoya Jackson two hours later. #CasketReady

“Oily” skin tends to resemble a sheet of aluminum foil due to the shine it produces from every angle. That would be me, lol.

“Combination” skin is a cross between oily and dry: some parts of your face may feel dry or even flaky, while areas feel oily.

Cleansing / Moisturizing

This is where it can get tricky. In general, you want to move upward in small circular motions to retain your skin’s natural elasticity. Never cleanse downward. Use a cream cleanser if you’re in need of constant moisture. A foaming cleanser for oily skin types is great because you don’t need as much moisture, just gentle cleansing. If you’re a combination skin type, focus on keeping your pores clean by using an exfoliating cleanser.

That Extra Something

Try using a mask once a week to deep clean your skin. There is one on the market for every skin type. and sheet masks are great because they are less messy. Be sure to exfoliate 1-2 times a week, otherwise you may damage your skin. It naturally rids itself of dead skin cells, but by applying a gentle, yet effective formula you’ll keep the zits away and your face glowing. Remember, breakouts are the result of clogged pores, stress, and sometimes your body screaming for a little TLC.

Here are a few options for sheet masks to get you started (hover over a product to get the details; then click to check it out):

P.S.

Eye cream, pore strips, or toner—all of those products work wonders and are just the icing on the cake. It is best to start using an eye cream in your 20s to keep the skin in that area looking “grown and sexy” for years to come. Pore strips are great for removing blackheads which can be stubborn and difficult to remove otherwise. Toner is a great daily alternative to traditional exfoliators and can even be used as stocking stuffers during Christmas as a gift.
