Jordin Sparks, American Idol winner from the 2007 season, just released a video on Facebook announcing that she has rededicated her life to Christ. Jordin had won American Idol with the support of the Christian community and with a song written by Scott Krippayne, a well-known Christian songwriter. However, in the years following her American Idol success, it appeared that Jordin was living life like many others in Hollywood, with parties, celebrity events, even featuring rappers who earned her an iTunes “Explicit” rating on her album “Right Here Right Now”.

She admits that she wasn’t living the lifestyle that was true to the Christian principles to which she had originally committed her life, saying she felt like a “zombie.”  She said that on Easter of 2016 she had a real encounter with God that deeply touched her and has now caused her to make changes in her life.  Smiling and crying, Jordin passionately expresses thankfulness to God for accepting her, even after she had been trying to control everything in her life.  She said the answer was to just be surrendered.  “I want to encourage you to trust God with your life.  He has been so faithful to me, and has never abandoned me even though I thought He did.  And I know He will do the same for you.”

Miles McPherson, the pastor of The Rock Church in San Diego, California, concludes the video by giving a Gospel message.  Recently, Miles had also hosted Tori Kelly at his church where she also opened up about her Christian walk and how it helped her continue through the years of being turned down repeatedly in the music industry.  To this day, Tori keeps her faith as a regular part of her social media presence and lately has been vocal in her public appearances.

Both Jordin and Tori are part of a growing trend of existing celebrities that are sharing their faith openly, even as Christian artists are working to become “crossover” artists into the mainstream by hiding the faith that inspires their music.
