When applying for a job, you carefully write a cover letter and send your resume to the company. You try to present yourself in as positive a fashion as possible, because there are probably hundreds of other applicants and you want to stand out in the crowd.

Many people mistakenly feel the same principles apply to prayer. We see ourselves as competing with billions of prayers being sent God’s way and think we need to do something special to get God’s attention.

But it all comes down to relationship. Just as a father responds to his children’s requests differently than to those of the children next door, so God is inclined toward the prayers of those who have become his children through faith in Jesus. And just as an earthly father is inclined toward the sincere requests of his children, God answers those who pray to him in sincerity and faith.
