“Knowing and Being Known” – New Life Daily Devotion – Sept. 25, 2010

Most of us have someone in our extended family or ancestry that we’d rather not own up to. It’s like the old saying, “You can pick your friends, but not your family.” And Jesus was no exception. His ancestry was quite a mixed bag.

For example, David was a brilliant musician and military strategist. He loved God, but he also had a dark side. He seduced his neighbor’s wife and had her husband killed.

Abraham was the father of all Jews and a great man of faith but he had some lapses where he lied to protect his own skin.

Noah is famous for building the ark but he also had a problem with alcohol.

The ancestors of Jesus were a mix of good and bad—just like ours. And that’s the point. He came to earth to be one of us – so that he could be the Savior for us.
