Men who aren’t fathers shouldn’t assume that Father’s Day is not for them. Think of the greeting cards that say, “To Someone Who’s been like a Father to Me.” St. Paul was like that. Although he’s not known to have had any children of his own, Paul mentored his young friend and colleague, Timothy. Paul was like a father to Timothy and Timothy was his spiritual son.

Now there are many ways to be a father, from nature to nurture and from physical to spiritual. And blessed are the men, who like Paul, whether they have natural children or not, invest themselves in the lives of young men and women; men who take the time to teach young people to become everything God wants them to be.

May each one of us look for opportunities to have the kind of impact on others that shapes them for generations to come.
