Have you ever noticed how quick we all are to judge others by their actions, while we want others to judge us by our intentions? The discrepancy between actions and intentions is as old as time. The Bible instructs us that “the wisdom that comes from heaven is…full of mercy and good fruit.”

“Full of mercy” refers to love and compassion for those in need. Most of us have feelings of mercy for those hit by the tragedy of a hurricane or a drunk driver. But true Christian mercy extends even to people who brought their problems upon themselves.

“Good fruit,” on the other hand, means doing something to help the person who is hurting or in trouble. It’s not just saying, “My heart goes out to those folk down the street with all the problems they’ve got;” it’s knocking on their door and saying, “How can I help you?”
