In the Bible’s description of the ideal woman it says, “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” From personal experience I know that children may not call their mother blessed while they are children. A memory that I’m not proud of is the day that I told my mother I hated her. I remember how angry I felt, even though I’ve long forgotten the cause of my anger. But I also remember my mother’s lack of reaction. To my amazement, she just stood there and took it. I now marvel at her godly wisdom.

You see, it’s when we rise up to maturity, that we come to understand why our mothers did and said the things they did. My mother knew that God was at work in me and she hung in there. And now from my vantage point as an adult, I rise up to call her blessed.
