Prayers and deep condolences to the friends, family, and entire community mourning the loss of DJ I Rock Jesus. A true pioneer in Christian Hip-Hop, a bridge-builder, and a man who carried the gospel with conviction. His passing leaves a real void, but his impact is carved into the culture forever.

Testimony
Born Rock Master Gary, music was always in his bones. However, it was Christ’s love that transformed his gift into a calling. Before salvation, he spent 18 years DJing in the world, wrestling with addiction, homelessness, and the kind of confusion that swallows people whole. Through it all, Renee, his high school sweetheart and the steady anchor of his life, prayed faithfully. When God told her to step aside so He could deal with Gary directly, she obeyed, even when it hurt.
The night she left, Gary planned to roll a few joints and escape into his music room. Instead, he was pulled into the bedroom, dropped to his knees, and visited by Jesus Himself. He saw a figure, heard a voice, and was shown a fork in the road. The wide road he already knew too well. The narrow road he chose that night changed everything. That decision set the stage for the ministry and legacy we honor today.
God restored his marriage. He restored his purpose. And then He called Gary deeper. “Come follow Me, and I’ll take care of you.” Leaving his job wasn’t easy, but surrender rarely is. When he finally let go, God handed him a new name and a new mission. No longer Rock Master Gary, known for “The Chronic Mix.” Now, DJ I Rock Jesus, unashamed and determined to reclaim souls through sound.
Becoming DJ I Rock Jesus
He and Renee launched Music for Life, built on Deuteronomy 30:19: Choose Life. And that’s exactly what he offered people. It was music that pointed to hope instead of destruction, life instead of death. He believed Christian DJs could usher in God’s presence just like worship leaders, and he lived that belief with every mix, every set, every room he stepped into.
His work spoke loudly. National DJ of the Year at the Carolina Holy Hip Hop Achievement Awards in 2007. Mixtapes with Corey Red, CFRN, and countless others. His syndicated Live Mix Show on Eprayze Radio became a staple; interviews, exclusives, remixes, and a heartbeat for CHH long before the genre had the infrastructure it has today.
Sticking to Purpose
He also knew loss. When Renee passed away in 2009 after her battle with cancer, he remained a faithful husband to the very end. Even in grief, he kept choosing the narrow road, kept choosing obedience, kept choosing Jesus.
DJ I Rock Jesus gave his life to lifting Christ and lifting artists. He believed in this culture before it was cool, before it was profitable, before it was recognized. He stood in the gap when CHH needed champions, and he never stopped pushing the Kingdom forward.
Honoring a Legend
Today, we honor a legend. A servant. A brother. A man who lived his testimony out loud and left us with a blueprint of faithfulness, resilience, and purpose.
Rest in glory, DJ I Rock Jesus. You rocked Jesus publicly, boldly, and without compromise. And now you’re home with the One you followed so faithfully.
