For fans of Christian melodic hardcore band Underoath, this week marks the end of an era. After more than ten years, the only remaining founding member, drummer Aaron Gillespie, has announced he will be parting ways with the band at the conclusion of its European tour.

“Truth be told, things change, people change, lives rearrange,” Gillespie wrote in a post on his Tumblr account dated April 6. “My time here in this band is up. I love it, the people the traveling. It is just time for me to go.”

Underoath got its start in 1997 in Ocala, Florida. At the time, the band consisted of founding member Dallas Taylor and a motley crew of friends. “I still remember the day Aaron showed up at Dallas Taylor’s house to try out for Underoath,” says Rey Anasco, former bass player for Underoath. “He played so hard on a crappy drum set pieced together from different people that we knew that his hands were bleeding at the end of practice. He was in the band alright. Who cares if he was only 14 at the time.”

Over the course of the next eleven years, many things would change about Underoath. More Here…
